Frequently Asked Questions

How do I care for my new puzzle?

Most wood puzzles will be sturdier than similar sized cardboard puzzles. To ensure the image on top of your puzzle stays looking good as new, be gentle when you handle your pieces or when you handle the puzzle while it is in the bag. As the loose pieces rub against each other, they can lead to scratches in the image finish. This is least noticeable on glossy prints. All fabric topped puzzles are much more resistant to scratches and wear. Fabric topped puzzles that do not have a finish will be prone to fraying around the cut edges. How do I commission a puzzle?

I have two primary options for commissioning a custom puzzle. If you're looking for a simple puzzle and don't care about all sorts of bells and whistles, check out our Custom Puzzle Listings in the Shop. Here, you can pick out your puzzle dimensions and the size of your pieces and add to your cart. When you add, you'll be given a few more of our most popular customization options. If you have more detailed requirements or want a high degree of control over the options for your puzzle, you can choose to complete a Quote Request. Note that this form is quite long and has many options.

How do I choose a picture for my puzzle?

Choosing a photo or artwork is usually the hardest part of the commission process. I've put a detailed guide together that discusses a variety of items for you to consider while you determine what image to use for your custom puzzle.

How long does it take to receive my puzzle?

Most puzzles are made to order and take up to 4-6 weeks. At certain times of the year, rush orders may be available. I usually have a small selection of in stock puzzles that are ready to ship within a week. If you fill out a Quote Request, there will be additional lead time while I prepare your estimate. Once you agree to the estimate and have completed the checkout process for your customized listing,  you will be provided with a shipping estimate along with your finalized quote.

Can you replace missing pieces?

In most cases I cannot replace missing pieces. As each puzzle is individually hand crafted, it is extremely difficult to get the image placement correct and nearly impossible to fully duplicate a puzzle piece exactly. I take every precaution to ensure that your puzzle is complete when it is shipped. All puzzles will be fully assembled during the cutting and finishing process. This minimizes the chance of lost pieces.

Help! I broke a piece or the top is pealing off the piece!

Don't worry! Most minor breaks or peeling images can be mended with a little bit of wood or craft glue. Wood glue is ideal for patching together broken pieces. Be sure not to use too much or there could be some seepage that may impact how your pieces fit together. A white craft glue is recommended for reattaching lifted images or tops. Be sure to apply very carefully with a small amount of glue on the tip of a toothpick. You can use your finger to press the image back down once the glue is applied or you can turn the piece over (image side down) onto a flat surface and apply pressure. Inspect the piece for any glue seepage and use your finger or a toothpick to remove it before it dries. For more information about maintaining your puzzle, check out the Care and Maintenance page.
