Layered Puzzles

These puzzles bring an extra dimension to the jigsaw puzzle by adding extra layers. These puzzles may be made of either plywood or hard or soft woods. They may be bare wood or topped with an image. They may be a stand alone puzzle or be combined with a tray or frame. For puzzles with images, the layers bring additional depth to the scene and allow specific features to jump out at the puzzler by bringing those features to another layer. Image-less puzzles make use of the wood and form to add to the puzzling experience - increasing the layers to the extreme or using a variety of woods in combination to create a layered work of art.

Layered Circles (7 Layers)

designed by Jennifer Novak

With individual circles ranging from 1 to 8 inches, an overall size of 12" x 18", and a total piece count just above 600, this puzzle has plenty to keep any puzzler busy. Under each layer lies another where every circle has shrunk in size. None of the pieces in this puzzle have been painted, stained, or topped with an image. Combined with the uniformity of the Baltic Birch it's made of, the puzzler has little to guide them in determining the location for each piece. The wood grain and the few knobs that lock each circle into the base or surrounding circles are the only help provided to the puzzler.

Inverted Pyramid (21 Layers)

designed by Jennifer Novak

Still in progress, this puzzle will be 21 layers when complete. The concept of this puzzle is similar to the Layered Circles puzzle but each layer will build upon the last to form a single inverted pyramid. The top of this puzzle will be finished with a sliding lid to allow the pyramid to be turned right side up for storage or display once assembled. Images of the completed puzzle will posted as soon as it is complete!
